In a clear victory for law and order and Texas sovereignty, the Houston City Council was compelled to reverse course on a reckless ordinance passed on April 8 that sought to limit cooperation between local police and federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

As predicted, incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn (41.89%) and challenger Attorney General Ken Paxton (40.68%) garnered the most votes and will advance to the runoff election.

State Representative Gary Elkins, who represented State House District 133 from 1995 to 2019, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 70.
