It is clear by the recent decision to hold up (we’ve been waiting three years) until next year the approval of a pipeline from Canada to the Gulf Coast, which would increase safe oil resources and increase jobs, that President Obama is not serious about energy independence, disentangling us from unstable Middle Eastern oil and expanding U.S. employment.
With an appalling 8.79% turnout, Houston voted in the 2011 City Election. Conservative pundits like Paul Bettencourt lament the lost opportunities in a 60% Democratic city.
As a longtime resident, your editor is saddened by the decline of the Houston Chronicle. A once proud newspaper has declined so much over recent years with the loss of journalistic talent and a decline in reporter’s ethics.
This is an interesting year in local politics. With the Obama economy still struggling nationally, and with the City of Houston suffering too – though not to the extent of the rest of the country – there is much political turmoil.
